Support to Refugee Children in Champhai Camp
Due to the political conflict followed by the 2021 coup in Myanmar, many Myanmar citizens are internally displaced, and thousand of Myanmar also flee to neighboring countries. Among them, about 1,000 Zomis seek refugees in India, and around 200 of them are in the Champhai camp. With the coordination of the Zomi Welfare in Champhai, 22 children (KG to Grade 7) from the Champhai camp are recently attending public schools. In addition, the camp leaders decide to offer Zolai, Burmese, Civics Education, and Life-skills subjects which are not taught in Mizoram public schools. Followings are pictures of KG and Grade 1 children learning Zolai and Burmese in the Champhai camp. Those and other Zomi refugee children will need further support for their learning, and ZEWG is coordinating for it. ZEWG donated 550,000 MMK (~US$300) for buying two whiteboards, nine makers, 20 exercise books, and other stationeries to the camp in 2021.
